Wreckless encounter

"Jonathan said to the young man, “Let's cross over to the camp of those heathen Philistines. Maybe the LORD will help us; if he does, nothing can keep him from giving us the victory, no matter how few of us there are.”

The young man answered, “Whatever you want to do, I'm with you.”"

~ 1 Samuel 14.6-7 GNB

"Maybe the LORD will help us ..", but maybe not. "If he does, nothing can keep him from giving us the victory ..", but if he does not, you and I will die. Either way, Jonathan was going.

Wreckless? Possibly.

What was the impetus to do this? Not written.

Did the LORD help him? Yes.

Jonathan got firsthand experience of total dependence on miracle. He knew what it felt to have the LORD's protection. And I think this experience helped him recognise the LORD's presence in young David years later that led him to bond with David. As the saying goes, "it takes one to know one".
