How not to lead (7)

"As David was returning after killing Goliath and as the soldiers were coming back home, women from every town in Israel came out to meet King Saul. They were singing joyful songs, dancing, and playing tambourines and lyres.

In their celebration the women sang, “Saul has killed thousands, but David tens of thousands.”

Saul did not like this, and he became very angry. He said, “For David they claim tens of thousands, but only thousands for me. They will be making him king next!” And so he was jealous and suspicious of David from that day on."

I speculate that "tens of thousands" was a figure of speech, but the fact remained, David was favoured over Saul. Instead of celebrating the win over the fight with Goliath and the Philistine, Saul was angry and jealous.

Saul forgot that he and his men were afraid to fight Goliath. And David was the only one who went forward to fight and kill Goliath. Saul forgot that the LORD made him king; he did not earn it.

The LORD gave and the LORD could take it away. Especially when a leader does not follow the LORD.

“We bring nothing at birth; we take nothing with us at death. The Lord alone gives and takes. Praise the name of the Lord!”
