In the face of overwhelming evidence
The Jewish authorities, however, were not willing to believe that he had been blind and could now see, until they called his parents ...
Jesus said, “I came to this world to judge, so that the blind should see and those who see should become blind.” Some Pharisees who were there with him heard him say this and asked him, “Surely you don't mean that we are blind, too?”
Jesus answered, “If you were blind, then you would not be guilty; but since you claim that you can see, this means that you are still guilty.”
(John 9.18,39-41 GNB)
Sometimes, belief and evidence do not agree. So in the face of overwhelming evidence, do I cling to my belief and ignore the overwhelming evidence? Or do I re-assess my belief?
Many people ignore the evidence by creating a new belief that the evidence has been fabricated or not to be interpreted literally, etc. They make excuses not to take the evidence into account. Or they may say that the evidence will not survive the test of time. So if they ignore it, then the evidence will disintegrate with time.
That is akin to choosing to be blind in the face of the evidence.
God is everlasting. I am finite.
God can see the future. I can't.
All I can do is assess the overwhelming evidence properly, as best I can. And let it strengthen my belief to the direction that accords with God's Word.
Do not remain "blind". Let go of doubt. Believe.
