Signalling
"Branded" luxury goods are popular amongst those who can easily afford them and those who get into debt to buy them. Usually, they are of good quality and they look good. Usually, but not always.
Sometimes despite their look, they become more desirable due to their brand. People buy them for the signalling factor. "Look at me. Look at me."
Instead of living "without the rest", this elevates things we do not need into worldly self-worth. This is the wrong intent. This distracts us from our heavenly worth: saved-by-grace child of God.
"John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven. .. He must increase, but I must decrease."
(John 3.27,30 KJV)
Lord,
whatever I acquire,
help me enjoy and use them
for the right intent
and for your glory.
