Help first
"Some people have turned away from these and have lost their way in foolish discussions. They want to be teachers of God's law, but they do not understand their own words or the matters about which they speak with so much confidence."
(1 Timothy 1.6-7 GNB)
Many people make claims about right living based on the Bible. Specifically, their interpretations of specific verses honed by their contextual thought evolution. They do not have perfect understanding of the Bible. Every one of us understands the Bible in bits and pieces and imperfectly. Only when we die will we understand everything fully.
I need to be careful not to judge others. I need to learn to love and to help and to avoid speaking ill of them.
John 8.1-11 tells a story about a woman caught in adultery who was brought to Jesus. Jesus did not demand the woman to repent first, before he helped her. No. He helped her first.
And the accusers who brought that woman to Jesus, the oldest (and probably the most knowledgeable) of them were the ones who slipped away first. They understood Jesus that their hearts were crooked.
Lord,
purify my heart
