Jealous, bitter, and selfish (2)
"And crowds of people came in from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing those who were ill or who had evil spirits in them; and they were all healed.
Then the High Priest and all his companions, members of the local party of the Sadducees, became extremely jealous of the apostles; so they decided to take action. They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail."
(Acts 5.16-18 GNB)
Not public benefit, but their own insecurity was what they prioritised. The priests and the sadducees did not give glory to God for the miracles, but became bitter for whatever glory they felt owed to them. They became bitter and unjustly put the apostles in jail, instead of upholding justice. They think they are above others. And trivialised God's will amongst the public.
History shows this scenario repeats in many forms and places, again and again. Such is the story of jealousy, bitterness, and selfishness.
I must not forget this, lest I be tempted to do the same.
