Stress
In the beginning, humans feel stress due to physical threats. Animals trying to kill them, not enough food to eat or water to drink, pain from something they ate or from fighting attacks, etc.
Nowadays, not many of us experience the kind of stress that comes from physical danger, although some do. Predominantly, our stress comes from our perception or response to perceived threat and what that would entail.
If I do not do what my boss tells me, I can lose my job and then I will not have enough money to pay rent, buy food, and pay for such and such. Or maybe I can still keep my job, but not get a pay raise which means I will not be able to buy that fancy bag that I see trending in social media. Or maybe my boss forgets about it because he was in a bad mood that day, so no impact. Maybe I am in the wrong job and this is a sign that I should search for a better job.
Maybe ... on and on.
I get it. Been there, done that. I myself am still a work in progress.
All I can say is that surrender takes practice. I have to start somewhere and if I do not start, I will never progress. I surrender to God one day at a time.
And looking back in my life, I am amazed at God's grace.
