"Be persistent in prayer, and keep alert as you pray, giving thanks to God." (Colossians 4.2 GNB)

It is good to be persistent in prayer. But it is no good if I am not alert to God's voice. Praying persistently but never noticing God's answer to prayer is unhealthy.

God sometimes whispers. Sometimes he uses sign language. Sometimes he speaks through unexpected people or events. He always answers, sooner or later. The question is whether I am alert enough to notice and listen to the answer.

And whether I like or dislike the answer, I ought to give thanks. Always.

help me be alert to your voice
